Good Morning!
The GIFT Nifty, an early indicator for the benchmark Nifty 50, is down 0.3% at 24,231 as of 7:43 am. Equity-index futures for the US (S&P 500) and Europe (Euro Stoxx 50) rose 0.52% and 0.43% respectively.
Stock Market Recap
Indian equity benchmarks, the Sensex and Nifty 50, ended Wednesday's session on a strong note, led by gains in IT and metal stocks.
Investors will now turn their attention to the US Federal Reserve's policy decision, due later in the day.
The NSE Nifty 50 gained 1.1% to close near 24,250, while the BSE Sensex advanced over 800 points, or 1.1%, to settle above 77,600.
US Market Recap
US stocks slumped on Wednesday as investors rushed to cut risk exposure amid a sharp jump in oil prices, heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and growing caution ahead of the US Federal Reserve's policy decision.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell more than 800 points in morning trade, while the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite also traded firmly in the red as markets digested a fresh escalation in the US-Iran conflict, rising crude prices and continued weakness in semiconductor stocks.
Asian Market Update
Asia-Pacific markets opened mixed today amid onhoing tensions in the Middle East, while investors also assess the US Federal Reserve's decision to hold benchmark rates steady. Japan's Nikkei 225 slipped 0.25% at the open but quickly pared losses to trade 1.5% higher along with Hong Kong's Hang Seng index, which is up 2% in early trade. South Korea's Kospi gained 0.89% at the open but pared gains to trade lower after a sharp drop on Wednesday, while the small-cap Kosdaq lost 0.73%. Australia's benchmark S&P/ASX 200 was 0.26% lower.
Commodity Check
Oil prices continued to gain as escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and shrinking US crude inventories reinforced concerns over global energy supplies.
Global benchmark Brent crude traded near $90 a barrel, after surging almost 8% in the previous session, its biggest daily gain in more than two weeks. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) hovered just below $84 a barrel, supported by renewed fears that the conflict between the US and Iran could further disrupt energy flows.
