Pop star Britney Spears has voluntarily checked into a treatment facility following a Driving Under the Influence arrest in California, her representatives confirmed. The decision follows an arrest in which she was reportedly under the influence of alcohol and an unknown substance, according to media reports.
Spears' team has publicly described the DUI incident as "inexcusable", as the singer's inner circle is now reportedly prioritizing a "success-oriented recovery plan" to ensure her long-term health and legal stability, reported the Economic Times.
She is expected to spend roughly 30 days in the facility, with the possibility of extending her stay. The voluntary 30-day program addresses substance abuse issues, particularly involving alcohol and Adderall, following mounting pressure and concern from her inner circle.
Reports suggest the move is both to address health issues and a strategic step to show the court the 44-year-old singer is taking the incident seriously.
Spears is scheduled to appear in Ventura County Superior Court on May 4, 2026, to face the DUI charge, as per ET. This follows her late-night arrest in California on March 4 for allegedly driving under the influence. The development comes after a string of erratic driving reports throughout 2025, which have kept the singer in the spotlight for her personal struggles rather than her musical career.
According to reports, Spears has struggled with substance abuse issues for years, specifically involving alcohol and the prescription stimulant Adderall. The report alleges that she frequently traveled to Mexico with the specific intent of replenishing her Adderall supply.
Widely regarded as a pop icon, Britney Spears began her career in 1992 with Ruthless! and The Mickey Mouse Club. After signing with Jive Records, her 1999 debut ...Baby One More Time sparked global superstardom. She has since delivered numerous hits, including Oops!... I Did It Again, Womanizer, and Toxic.
