Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay announced three free LPG cylinders per family every year. The LPG benefit is linked to the "Annapoorani Super Six" scheme.
Despite the scheme's name, the government's latest announcement provides three cylinders annually initially, rather than the six cylinders Vijay had earlier promised during the election campaign.
Vijay stated that the LPG scheme is expected to benefit around 1.3 crore families in Tamil Nadu.

The scheme is expected to be implemented from Pongal in January.

Bus Travel Scheme for Women
Vijay also announced an expansion of the existing free bus travel facility for women. The announcement includes free bus travel for transgender persons.
The significance of the announcement is that the TVK government is expanding the scope of the existing concession rather than introducing free bus travel for women for the first time. Tamil Nadu already had a free travel programme for women on ordinary government city and town buses.

Vijay's election promise had been to extend free travel to all state-run buses, including services beyond the ordinary city/town buses covered by the earlier scheme. The proposed expansion had been described as the Vettri Prayanam / Vettri Travel Scheme.
Other Announcements
In another major announcement, Vijay stated that his government would drop the proposed Parandur site for Chennai's second airport. He stated that the Parandur project could affect agricultural land and the livelihood of farmers and residents.
At the same time, Vijay acknowledged that Chennai needs another airport because of the city's growing requirements, industrial development and increasing cargo movement. He stated that the government would instead look for a new location where agricultural and residential land would be minimally affected, ANI reported.
Vijay also said that Chennai's existing Meenambakkam airport has an annual capacity of about 30 million passengers.
