The Supreme Court on Monday expressed serious concerns over the fluctuations in airfare and extra charges by airlines during festivals and holiday season.
A bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta made the remark while hearing a petition seeking regulatory guidelines to control the unpredictable fluctuations in airfare and ancillary charges imposed by private airlines.
"This is a very serious concern. Otherwise, we don't entertain 32 petition," the Court remarked.

Appearing for the Central government, Additional Solicitor General Anil Kaushik told the court that the government is looking into the issue at the highest level and a response will be filed within four weeks.
The Solicitor General has also called a meeting. We have taken the matter to the highest level. We are in discussion with the highest authority. Four weeks time may be given. We will come up with a counter," the government submitted.
The matter has been adjourned till March 23 for further consideration.

Meanwhile, the Federation of India Airlines (FIA) sought impleadment in the case. However, the court refused it for now and said that the same will be considered at a later stage.
"The union will deal with you. They will call you before taking a decision. They will constitute a committee and take a decision. It is for the ministry to decide. If they don't, we will consider that later on," the Court remarked.
