A power bank carried by a passenger caught fire onboard an IndiGo flight operating from Hyderabad to Chandigarh, prompting swift action by the crew, media reports said.
The incident occurred on flight 6E 108 while the aircraft was on ground halt, according to initial reports. Media reports said that cabin crew responded immediately and managed to contain the situation, preventing any escalation.
Wile confirming the incident, the IndiGo spokesperson said an incident involving a passenger's personal electronic device catching fire was reported onboard flight 6E 108 from Hyderabad to Chandigarh after landing on May 5, 2026.
“In the interest of safety, an immediate evacuation was carried out and all relevant authorities were informed. All customers were safely moved to the terminal and are being attended to by our team,” the spokesperson said.
Author of HarperCollins bestselling book Sky High, Tarun Shukla, while sharing the visuals of the incident on X, said that emergency evacuation was carried out in Chandigarh on an Indigo flight.

The airline added that the aircraft will undergo necessary checks before resuming operations, reiterating that passenger and crew safety remains its top priority.
