She also says, "Udhhav Thackeray should change his script writer and find some other excuse... The verdict of loss and win is decided by the public. The message is that the opportunity belongs to those who work on ground and those who work from home are made to stay at home..."

Counting begins for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls. 

Counting of votes polled in elections to 29 municipal corporations across Maharashtra began on Friday morning with the spotlight on Mumbai, where the BJP-led Mahayuti bloc is locked in a prestige battle with the reunited Thackeray cousins for control of India's richest civic body.

Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray claimed irregularities in the Maharashtra civic polls, terming it an attempt to murder democracy, and urged voters to dislodge the "brutal, fraud, corrupt, and dictatorial regime of the BJP".

Uddhav and his cousin Raj Thackeray, who heads the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, targeted the State Election Commission (SEC) over a range of issues, besides claiming that the ink used on voters' fingers could easily be erased.

A voter turnout of 52.94% was recorded in the Mumbai civic polls, down from 55.53% in the last elections in 2017. According to data released by the civic body, ward number 114 in suburban Bhandup recorded the highest turnout at 64.53%, while ward number 227 in south Mumbai’s Colaba area reported the lowest turnout at 20.88%

Of the over 1.03 crore eligible voters in the metropolis, 52.94% exercised their franchise on Thursday between 7.30 am and 5.30 pm.

Mumbai BMC Elections Result: Counting For Only 46 Wards To Begin At 10 a.m

In a release, the BMC said counting of votes polled in the elections on Thursday will begin at 10 am across 23 centres in the metropolis. As in past elections, the counting of all wards will not start simultaneously - instead, votes from two wards will be counted at a time. This means counting for only 46 wards will begin at 10 am, instead of all 227 wards at once. According to the officials, due to this changed counting process, no trends will be available for all 227 seats as soon as the process begins, unlike in the past.
 

Mumbai BMC Elections Result: Indelible Ink Controversy

Several voters as well as opposition leaders, including MNS chief Raj Thackeray and Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, alleged that the indelible ink used during the polling could be easily wiped off using sanitiser, acetone, or even water, raising concerns about the possibility of impersonation or multiple voting.

Meanwhile, in a first-of-its-kind initiative, the civic body has introduced a geo-fencing and live vehicle tracking system to monitor the movement of vehicles deployed for election duty.

As per a second BMC release, as many as 2,865 vehicles, including 1,023 buses from civic undertaking BEST, 101 from the state transport corporation, 1,160 from private owners and 581 taxis, were being tracked through a central control room at the civic headquarters in south Mumbai to ensure timely and secure transportation of polling staff and election materials.

Around 1,700 candidates will vie for 227 seats in the key elections to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Voting started at 7.30 a.m. and ended at 5.30 p.m. 

A total of 10,231 polling stations were set up across Mumbai, and 64,375 officers and staff were deployed for duty. The BMC said several measures were taken to encourage voter participation, including decoration of polling stations, setting up of pink booths, selfie points and media facilitation centres, along with special assistance for senior citizens and persons with disabilities.

Adequate police deployment was also made to maintain law and order on polling day.
