Heatwave: IMD Issues Warning For Several States; Mumbai, Ahmedabad On Yellow Alert - Check Forecast

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for heatwave and hot weather conditions in several parts of the country. 

According to the latest forecast, some areas are likely to experience heatwave conditions, while others may face hot and humid weather.

Mumbai and Ahmedabad are under yellow alert, which means people should take precautions during hot weather.

Heat wave to severe heat wave conditions are also very likely in isolated pockets over Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Vidarbha, Gujarat, north Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada.

What IMD Predicts For Mumbai And Maharashtra? 

In Mumbai and nearby districts such as Palghar district, Thane district and Raigad district, heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are expected in isolated places on March 9.  Heatwave conditions may continue in isolated pockets on March 10. From March 11 to March 13, the weather is expected to remain dry in these districts.

Forecast For Other Regions Of Maharashtra 

  1. In Ratnagiri district, hot and humid conditions are likely in isolated pockets on March 9 and March 10, while dry weather is expected from March 11 to March 13.
  2. In Sindhudurg district, light rain or thundershowers may occur on March 9, followed by dry weather for the remaining days.
  3. Several districts in north Maharashtra, including Dhule, Nandurbar and Jalgaon may experience hot and humid conditions in isolated areas on March 9, with dry weather expected afterwards. 
  4. In Nashik district, hot and humid conditions are expected on March 9, while the weather will remain dry during the following days. The ghats of Nashik are expected to stay dry during the entire forecast period.
  5. In Ahmednagar district (Ahilyanagar), dry weather is expected on March 9, while hot and humid conditions may occur in isolated places on March 10. Dry weather will continue afterwards.
  6.  Pune and its ghat areas are expected to experience dry weather throughout the period. Similarly, Satara district and the ghats of Satara are expected to remain dry.
  7. In Kolhapur district and the ghats of Kolhapur, light rain or thundershowers may occur on March 9, followed by dry weather in the coming days.
  8.  Sangli district may also receive light rain or thundershowers on March 9 before the weather turns dry. 
  9. Solapur district is expected to experience dry weather during the entire forecast period.
  10. In Marathwada, districts such as Aurangabad district (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar) may see hot and humid conditions on March 9 and March 10, followed by dry weather afterwards. 
  11. In Jalna district, hot and humid conditions may continue until March 11 before the weather becomes dry.
  12. In Parbhani district, dry weather is expected on March 9, while hot and humid conditions may occur on March 10 and March 11. 
  13. In Beed district, hot and humid conditions are likely on March 10, while the remaining days will remain dry.
  14. Hingoli district and Latur district may experience hot and humid conditions in isolated places on March 11, with dry weather during the other days. 
  15. Nanded district and Osmanabad district (Dharashiv) are expected to remain dry throughout the forecast period.
  16. In the Vidarbha region, Akola district is likely to see heatwave conditions at isolated places from March 9 to March 11.
  17.  Amravati district may experience heatwave conditions on March 9 and March 10.
  18. Wardha district may also experience heatwave conditions in isolated areas on March 10 and March 11.
  19. Other districts such as Bhandara district, Buldhana district, Chandrapur district, Gadchiroli district, Gondia district, Nagpur district, Washim district and Yavatmal district are not expected to have any warning during this period.

How's the weather going To Be In Ahmedabad And Gujarat ? 

In Ahmedabad, hot and humid conditions are likely in some coastal areas along with heatwave conditions in isolated places from March 9 to March 11. From March 12 to March 13, hot and humid weather may continue in some coastal areas, followed by dry weather later in the period.

  1. Heatwave conditions are expected in districts such as Banaskantha district, Patan district and Mehsana district from March 9 to March 11, with dry weather expected afterwards.
  2. In Gandhinagar district and Vadodara district, heatwave conditions are also likely during the same period before the weather turns dry.
  3. Several districts including Sabarkantha district, Aravalli district, Kheda district, Panchmahal district, Dahod district, Mahisagar district, Chhota Udaipur district and Narmada district are expected to experience dry weather during the forecast period.
  4. Hot and humid conditions are expected in coastal districts including Bharuch district, Surat district, Navsari district, Valsad district, Daman and Dadra and Nagar Haveli during the early part of the forecast period, followed by dry weather later.
  5. In the Saurashtra region, heatwave conditions are likely from March 9 to March 11 in districts such as Surendranagar district, Rajkot district and Botad district. 
  6. Other districts including Jamnagar district, Porbandar district, Junagadh district, Amreli district, Bhavnagar district and Morbi district may see hot and humid conditions in isolated coastal areas during the first few days before the weather turns dry later.

 Weather Situation PAN India 

The India Meteorological Department said that temperatures are likely to remain above normal in several regions. 

Day temperatures may stay higher than usual by 5 to 7 degrees Celsius over Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh until March 10.

Temperatures may also remain 4 to 6 degrees Celsius above normal over the plains of northwest India, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh until March 11.

Maximum temperatures were between 38 degree celsius and 41 degree celsius  in several places across Marathwada, West Rajasthan and Vidarbha.

Temperatures between 35 degree celsius and 38 degree celsius were also reported in many areas of Madhya Maharashtra, Odisha, Chhattisgarh and East Madhya Pradesh.

The highest maximum temperature recorded was 40.9  degree celsius in Maharashtra's Akola.

The weather department also said a western disturbance may bring rainfall or snowfall to parts of the Western Himalayan region until March 15. Scattered rainfall or snowfall is likely in Jammu and Kashmir during March 9 to March 12, with isolated heavy falls expected on March 10 and March 11. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds may also occur in some areas.
