Firefighters in Gujarat's Surat recovered Rs 2 lakh in cash after a family accidentally threw the money into a canal while immersing Puja offerings.
According to Republic TV, the family had recently conducted a puja at their home. After the ritual was completed, flowers and other offerings used during the prayer were kept in a cupboard.
Later, the family decided to immerse the offerings in a nearby canal as part of the ritual. They collected the items in a bag before going to the canal for the immersion. However, during this process, four bundles of Rs 550 notes, amounting to a total of Rs 2 lakh, got mixed with the puja items kept in the bag.

Unaware that the cash had been placed along with the offerings, the family carried the bag to the canal and threw it into the water along with the "puja samagri".
After completing the immersion ritual, the family returned home without realising that the bag also contained the money.

The mistake came to light sometime later when the family began searching for the cash and could not find it. After checking the items at home, they realised that the money might have been accidentally discarded into the canal during the immersion.

Following this discovery, the family immediately contacted the fire control room and asked for assistance in recovering the bag.
Firefighters from the local fire department then reached the location and entered the water to search the area where the bag had been thrown. After carefully searching the canal, the firefighters managed to locate the bag and recover the cash.
The recovered money was reportedly later handed back to the family.

According to reports cited by Republic TV, two firefighters sustained minor injuries during the search operation.
