Indian business schools (B-schools) are bringing artificial intelligence into mainstream management education, by starting AI-focused courses and redesigning traditional MBA programmes to prepare graduates to meet an advancing workplace. Artificial intelligence is not just changing how businesses operate, but how future managers are being trained. B-schools in India are reworking their curriculum to integrate AI into subjects like finance, marketing and human resources by introducing specialised courses in generative AI, business analytics and responsible technology use.

The shift highlights growing demand for professionals who can use AI to make business decisions, analyse complex information and improve organisational performance. While Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) have already incorporated AI into several academic programmes, private management institutes are stepping up efforts to make their courses relevant to current technology-driven job markets.

Speaking to PTI, Tapan Kumar Nayak, director of Jaipuria School of Business said that the generative AI is adding a new dimension to one of management education's biggest responsibilities: teaching students to exercise sound judgement in uncertain situations.

"We have designed a dedicated 30-hour course on 'Emerging Technologies and AI for Business Leaders' in the first-year curriculum. Some of the best B-Schools teach a compulsory 2-3 month course on 'AI Foundations for Managers'. We have a dedicated major specialisation in Business Analytics where AI has become an integral part of the specialisation," he said.

According to Nayak, institutions across the country, including IIMs and several tier-2 business schools, are introducing AI-focused MBA programmes to align their offerings with global industry requirements.

However, he cautioned that teaching students how to use artificial intelligence is only one part of the challenge. Understanding its ethical implications, limitations and potential risks must receive equal attention.

"To make it more ethical and responsible, B-Schools must require a course on accountable AI that should have a module on AI safety and sovereignty. B-Schools must commence the session with a workshop for incoming students on the emerging new-age tools such as ChatGPT and Claude and AI-based simulations to keep each and every student on the same page," Nayak added.

Moreover, changes taking place in management classrooms are being driven by shifting expectations in the corporate world. The Global Perspectives Survey Report 2026, which gathered responses from 22 deans and academic leaders, identified artificial intelligence, changing employer requirements and evolving demand for MBA programmes among the major challenges confronting Indian business schools.

Separately, a survey by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) highlighted the ability to work with AI tools as a leading skill that employers are expected to seek in the coming years.

The findings have prompted institutions to reassess whether conventional management teaching methods are sufficient to prepare graduates for jobs in which human expertise and machine intelligence will work together.

The impact of AI is not confined to postgraduate management education. BITS Pilani, which offers MBA programmes, is changing its undergraduate curriculum to give students more flexibility and encourage closer engagement with research and industry.

The revised framework emphasises on student wellbeing. BITS Pilani Group Vice Chancellor V Ramgopal Rao said the growing availability of AI-powered knowledge tools have changed what universities need to prioritise in their teaching.

"We have launched a new curriculum responding to AI's impact on education and growing mental health concerns. AI has democratised access to knowledge. Our focus is on giving students the confidence and skills to build independently," the Vice Chancellor said.
