US stocks fell sharply in opening trade on Thursday as a global sell-off accelerated following another plunge in Chinese equities.
About four minutes into trade, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 were both down 1.7 per cent, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index fell 2.2 per cent.
