Range Rover To Get Cheaper By Over Rs 40 Lakh? Here's What We Know

Under the India-UK free trade agreement, import duty on some UK-made cars is expected to come down in stages. In the first year, the tax on qualifying cars may fall from 110 per cent to 30 per cent, and later reduce further.

Other imported Range Rover vehicles made in the UK are also expected to get cheaper

A number of Range Rover models sold in India may soon cost much less, thanks to a new India-UK trade deal that is expected to reduce import taxes on some British cars.

The biggest price cut is likely on the Range Rover Sport SV Edition Two, which could become cheaper by about Rs 40 lakh, according to a report by Autocar India. Its price may fall from Rs 2.75 crore to around Rs 2.35 crore, before taxes and other charges. A new standard SV version is also expected to be launched at about Rs 2.05 crore.

Why Prices May Fall

The reason is simple: when cars are imported into India, they usually attract very high taxes. Under the India-UK free trade agreement, import duty on some UK-made cars is expected to come down in stages. In the first year, the tax on qualifying cars may fall from 110% to 30%, and later reduce further. That lower tax can make a very expensive car noticeably cheaper for buyers.

Impact On Other Models

The report says the price drop may not be limited to one model. Other imported Range Rover vehicles made in the UK are also expected to get cheaper, possibly by around 15% In some cases, the flagship Range Rover could see a reduction of as much as Rs 63 lakh, and the top-end version may eventually become more than Rs 1 crore cheaper. Still, that does not mean the company will pass on the full tax benefit in every case.

What It Means For Buyers

This would be a big move in India's luxury car market, where even a small price change can affect buying decisions. If Jaguar Land Rover does pass on the savings, it could become the first luxury carmaker to directly reduce prices because of the India-UK trade agreement.

The lower tax is expected to apply only to cars made in the UK and brought into India as fully built imports. That means not every Land Rover model will benefit. For example, the Defender is not expected to get the same cut because it is made in Slovakia, not the UK.

Recent Price Changes

Jaguar Land Rover had already cut prices on some of its cars in India after GST revisions in September 2025. If these new duty reductions come into effect, it would mark another significant price drop within a short span, potentially making high-end luxury SUVs more affordable than before.
