HDFC Bank Ltd. maintained its position as the most traded stock across segments during April, even as its turnover fell against a month ago.

The share of the top 10 traded scrips in the cash market segment fell as only four recorded a month-on-month growth, while the segment as a whole recorded a rise after a two-month decline.

Total traded value for the shares in the segment crossed Rs 21 lakh crore, rising by 14% against the previous month, while the turnover for the top 10 traded stocks gained 10.7% to Rs 3.2 lakh crore.

Vodafone Idea Ltd. was the second most traded share, based on the total value of trades, joining the ranks of the top 10, as it concluded the country's largest follow-on public offer of Rs 18,000 crore on April 22. Its turnover for the month grew nearly five times as against the month-ago period.

Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. and Axis Bank Ltd. also became a part of the list, as the former saw a twofold jump in monthly turnover and the latter grew 55%.

Stock Futures

The stock futures segments saw HDFC Bank take the top spot, with a 20% rise against last month, followed by ICICI Bank Ltd. and State Bank of India.

Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. saw the biggest jump in turnover for the month, rising over seven times to over Rs 62,000 crore.

The segment continues to command the highest monthly turnover, rising by 19% to over Rs 31 lakh crore during the month.

It also registered a record during the month, with single-day turnover hitting Rs 3.5 lakh crore on April 25, which is double the average daily turnover during the month, and three times that of the last fiscal.

The last single-day record was on Jan. 23 this year.

Stock Options

HDFC Bank claimed the highest spot once again in the stock options segment, based on turnover for contracts' premium values.

SBI took the second spot, with its turnover remaining flat against the month prior, followed by Vedanta Ltd., whose turnover grew over fivefold during the monthly period.

Turnover for the segment grew 23%, after declining for three months in a row, while that of the top 10 saw a rise of only 2.7% as compared with the previous month.
