According to estimates, the Aamir Khan action thriller earned Rs 107.61 crore from domestic box office in its first three days of release and Rs 62.95 crore from overseas markets.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh in a tweet said, "So here's the opening weekend total of #Dhoom3... India Rs 107.61 cr + Overseas Rs 62.95 cr. Worldwide total: Rs 170.56 cr. HISTORIC!"

By hitting the Rs 100 crore mark in just three days, the third instalment of the Dhoom franchise beat the earlier record set by Shah Rukh Khan's Chennai Express, which has touched the mark in four days.

Dhoom 3's opening week collection is also a record for any Bollywood movie, both in terms of domestic earning and overseas figures.

From overseas markets, Dhoom 3 is estimated to have grossed $ 10.17 million in its opening week, surpassing the Chennai Express's collection of $8.5 million.

"#Dhoom3 opening weekend total is approx $10.17 million [Rs 62.95 cr]. Has crossed #ChennaiExpress wknd total - $ 8.5 million. Historic!," Taran Adarsh had tweeted.

On its opening day, Dhoom 3, directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, earned a total of Rs.36.22 crore at the box office, also an opening-day record at the domestic box office.

Also featuring Abhishek Bachchan, Uday Chopra and Katrina Kaif, Dhoom 3 was reportedly released in about 4,000 screens in India. (With Agency inputs)
