US President Donald Trump stated that his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping said that would like a deal made on Iran, as per a statement to Fox News, cited by Bloomberg. He further said that Jinping would like to see the Strait of Hormuz open. Trump said that he discussed China's support of Iran with the Chinese President.

US President Donald Trump stated that his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping said that he won't give military equipment to Iran, as per a statement to Fox News, cited by Bloomberg. He further said that Jinping has offered to help the US with regards to Iran.

The US has destroyed more than 90% of Iran’s inventory of around 8,000 naval mines, the commander of US forces in the Middle East told lawmakers on Thursday, in a written statement that did not address Tehran’s continued control of the vital Strait of Hormuz.

US Central Command said that 70 vessels have been redirected since the start of blockade, according to Bloomberg, which cited their 'X' account.

US efforts to end the war with Iran were dealt a setback after a commercial vessel was apparently seized by unauthorized personnel near the United Arab Emirates, adding to uncertainty over control of the critical Strait of Hormuz.

Israel's Defence Minister Israel Katz stated that the 'Iran mission' is not over. And said that the country is prepared for the possibility it may need to act again.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, without naming specific nations, said that respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity must anchor international relations, maintaining that "dialogue and diplomacy" offer the only sustainable path to conflict resolution.

Jaishankar said India stands ready to contribute constructively towards de-escalation efforts and to support initiatives aimed at restoring stability.

The external affairs minister also strongly pitched for ensuring safe and unimpeded maritime flows through the Strait of Hormuz and Red Sea, and voiced concerns over the "grave humanitarian implications" of the conflict in Gaza.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs China's readout on President Xi Jinping Holds Talks with US President Donald J. Trump:

President Xi stressed that the Taiwan question is the most important issue in China-U.S. relations. If it is handled properly, the bilateral relationship will enjoy overall stability. Otherwise, the two countries will have clashes and even conflicts, putting the entire relationship in great jeopardy. “Taiwan independence” and cross-Strait peace are as irreconcilable as fire and water. Safeguarding peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait is the biggest common denominator between China and the U.S. The U.S. side must exercise extra caution in handling the Taiwan question.

A ship anchored off the east coast of the United Arab Emirates has been seized and is heading toward Iranian waters, the British military said.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations centre said it received reports that the vessel was taken by unauthorised personnel while anchored 38 nautical miles (70 kilometers) northeast of the UAE port of Fujairah, near the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi urged BRICS members on Thursday to explicitly condemn what he called US and Israeli violations of international law, including attacks on Iran.

"Iran calls on BRICS member states and all responsible members of the international community to explicitly condemn violations of international law by the United States and Israel, including their illegal aggression against Iran," Araghchi told a BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting in New Delhi.

EAM S Jaishankar at BRICS conclave said the following on global markets and trade.

• BRICS can help countries facing challenges of energy supplies, food, fertiliser and health security.

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday warned President Donald Trump that differences over Taiwan could bring the US and China to clashes or conflict, according to Chinese state media.

The meeting between the two leaders was behind closed doors, but Xi told Trump during it that, if Taiwan is handled well, US-China relations “will enjoy overall stability,” according to a readout of their bilateral talks published by the official Xinhua news agency.

If not, however, the two countries risk “clashes and even conflicts, putting the entire relationship in great jeopardy,” Xi said.

Trump and Xi wrap up meeting after two hours of talks covering Taiwan, trade and other differences in US-China relations, reports AP.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said Washington hopes to convince Beijing during the talks between President Donald Trump and his Chinese counterpart to play a "more active role" in resolving the Iran war crisis.

Speaking to Fox News aboard Air Force One on the way to Beijing, Rubio said the Iran war was a “huge source of instability” and “threatens to destabilise Asia more than any other part of the world because it’s heavily reliant on the straits for energy”.

"It's in (China’s) interest to resolve this. We hope to convince them to play a more active role in getting Iran to walk away from what they’re doing now and trying to do now in the Persian Gulf,” he said, the Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post reported on Thursday.

After the Middle East conflict escalated, Iran urged India, as the current BRICS chair, to leverage its "independent role" to halt the US-Israel hostilities against Iran.

Beijing swing comes as Iran continues to dominate his domestic agenda and stoke fears about the prospect of a weakening US economy as the election season ahead of November's midterms — when Republicans will be looking to maintain control of Congress — begins heating up.

Spending so much time with Xi — especially against splendiferous backdrops — will afford ample time for Trump to discuss a series of thorny topics. Those include Iran and trade, but also Taiwan and a possible three-way nuclear arms deal featuring Washington, Beijing and Russia.

Still, progress beyond pleasantries — and lots of praise between Trump and Xi, who have spent years effusively complimenting each other publicly — might prove elusive.
