Tropical Storm Erick, hovering in the Pacific Ocean near southern Mexico, is expected to become a hurricane by Wednesday. Currently, with 12 mph winds, it's moving west-northwest, the data from Zoom Earth live tracker shows.
According to the US National Hurricane Center, the storm is predicted to approach the coast by late Wednesday. It is currently situated about 430 miles southeast of Punta Maldonado, Mexico, with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph.

In view of the anticipated hurricane, which is also likely to bring strong winds and rain, Mexico's southwest coast remains on alert, The Weather Channel reported. A hurricane watch has been issued for the Pacific coast from Bahia De Huatulco in Oaxaca state to Punta Maldonado, according to the report.
Zoom Earth tracker shows that the Erick remained a depression until 11:30 a.m. IST on Tuesday before strengthening into a tropical storm. Based on its movement, it is expected to take the shape of an H1 category hurricane by 5:30 p.m. IST on Wednesday. The storm could further develop into a Category 2 hurricane between 5:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. IST on Thursday.
During this period, Oaxaca and Guerrero are expected to face extremely heavy rainfall, up to 20 inches, which may lead to flash flooding and mudslides, The Weather Channel said.
Hawaii-based KITV reported that other states in Mexico, including Chiapas, Michoacán, Colima and Jalisco, could receive between three to eight inches of rain during this period.

Tropical Storm Erick Arrives A Month Ahead Of Schedule
The Weather Channel report also highlighted that Erick's arrival is more than a month ahead of schedule. While Mexico's southwest coast is expected to face significant rainfall on Thursday, outer rainbands from the storm have already begun spreading across eastern Mexico, as well as parts of Guatemala and El Salvador, the report added.
For the next 48 hours, winds exceeding 74 mph are possible in the impacted regions. By 5:30 a.m. IST on June 20, the hurricane is forecast to weaken to a Category 1 system, followed by a further downgrade into a tropical depression in the subsequent hours.
