Modi, Trump And More: Top 5 Global Leaders With Highest Number Of Instagram Followers

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached a major social media milestone, emerging as the world's first political leader to surpass 100 million followers on Instagram. Since opening his account over a decade ago, his online following has surged to a level that significantly outpaces that of his American counterpart, Donald Trump.

After joining Instagram in 2014, his presence on the platform has grown consistently, placing the account among the most-followed and most-engaged political profiles worldwide.

Over the years, it has become a window into official duties, overseas visits, public interactions, cultural highlights and occasional personal thoughts, allowing PM Modi to reach a broad and varied audience.

The milestone places Narendra Modi at the top of the global leaderboard for political leaders on Instagram, with a commanding gap over his peers. His follower base exceeds that of Donald Trump significantly, with the US President occupying the second place with 43.2 million followers.

Trailing behind are Indonesia's President Prabowo Subianto with 15 million followers, Brazil's President Lula at 14.4 million, Turkey's leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan with 11.6 million, and Argentina's President Javier Milei, who has 6.4 million. Even combined, the next five major world leaders fall short of PM Modi's total follower count.

Among Indian political figures, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath occupies second place with 16 million followers, though his tally remains far short of PM Modi's numbers. Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, follows in third with 12.6 million.

According to Statista, PM Modi recorded the highest approval rating among his global peers as of December 2025, with a 70% score. This placed him ahead of Japan's Sanae Takaichi, who secured a 63% rating, and Argentina's Javier Milei, who came third with 60%, as per the Statista report.

PM Modi reached the landmark figure shortly after delivering a speech at the Knesset, or Parliament, on Wednesday as part of his two-day trip to Israel. According to the Prime Minister's Office, no Indian PM had previously addressed the Israeli parliament. The visit also saw Modi being conferred the Speaker of the Knesset Medal, the most prestigious recognition awarded by the Israeli Parliament.
