While the world waits in anticipation of the Ramadan crescent, the authorities in Brunei Darussalam have declared that the moon was not sighted in the country on Tuesday evening, which means Thursday, February 19, will mark the first day of the holy month in the Island nation.
Brunei is about two and a half hours ahead of Indian time, and the efforts for a moon sighting had been underway soon after the Maghrib (evening prayers). At about 5:00 PM (IST), Tuesday evening, the Gulf News reported that the crescent was not sighted in the country.
Brunei Darussalam is a small island nation, an independent Islamic Sultanate, located on the Northern coast of Borneo in South East Asia, surrounded by Malaysia and the South China Sea.

Meanwhile, announcements on the Ramadan crescent from Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines are expected to come within an hour from now.
Following this, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and other major Muslim countries will make announcements based on the reports from their respective observatories.
The countries have also asked their citizens to report moon sightings, if any, which will then be authenticated to decide on the commencement of the holy month.
