With the Middle East war entering its sixth week and US President Donald Trump issuing an expletive-laden threat to Iran over the Strait of Hormuz closure, Iran's parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said "our whole region is going to burn because you insist on following Netanyahu's commands."

Strongly criticising America for striking his country, Ghalibaf, in a post on X, stated, "Your reckless moves are dragging the United States into a living HELL for every single family."

"Make no mistake: You won't gain anything through war crimes," he further added.

Ghalibaf also suggested negotiations by demanding respect for the people of Iran, "The only real solution is respecting the rights of the Iranian people and ending this dangerous game."

Trump's threat to bomb Iranian bridges and power plants follows Tehran's resistance to reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a key provision of the agreement meant to conclude the conflict that began on February 28.

President Trump signalled a 24-hour extension to his deadline for Iran on Sunday, offering a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz before initiating heavy strikes against the nation's infrastructure.

Trump issued the new ultimatum for Tuesday, 8 PM ET, in a post on Truth Social.

Tehran has said it would respond “in kind” to any attacks on its infrastructure, with senior officials condemning the US President's remarks as an “incitement to war crimes”, Al Jazeera reported.

Iran has claimed "full control" of the Strait of Hormuz water route, on which much of the world's oil and gas depends.
