Donald Trump's picture will soon appear in some US passports, officials said on Wednesday. The State Department confirmed it would issue a limited‑edition passport to mark the 250th anniversary of the US Declaration of Independence this year, according to a report by Fox News.

According to reports, the special passport will include two additional images. One showing Trump's official portrait superimposed over the Declaration of Independence, with his signature printed in gold beneath it. The other will feature a historic painting of the US founding fathers.

"As the United States celebrates America's 250th anniversary in July, the State Department is preparing to release a limited number of specially designed US passports to commemorate this historic occasion," State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott wrote on X.

The Trump‑themed passports would be available only in Washington and only "for as long as there is availability". The official added that there would be no additional charge for the special edition, reported AFP.

It was not immediately clear whether passport applicants would be able to opt out of receiving the commemorative version.
There are few modern precedents, particularly in democratic countries, for sitting leaders' images appearing in passports. Most nations favour historical scenes, cultural symbols or natural landscapes instead.

Current US passports feature a range of imagery from the country's past, including the Moon landing and landmarks such as the Statue of Liberty.

Trump Pushes For Branding

Since returning to office last year, Trump has moved aggressively to brand government institutions with his name and image. Several federal buildings in Washington have displayed banners featuring the president, while his name has been added to the Kennedy Centree for the Performing Arts and the now‑dismantled US Institute of Peace. Last month, the Treasury Department also said Trump's signature would soon begin appearing on US dollar bills, another move without modern precedent.

Britain and other Commonwealth countries feature the likeness of King Charles III on their currency. The king is a head of state without direct involvement in day‑to‑day politics.
