In a major crackdown on digital piracy following the leak of Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay's final film 'Jana Nayagan', over 300 illegal links of the film have been removed from the internet.
While the movie has been indefinitely postponed, the leaks pose a major dent to 'Jana Nayagan's' box office prospects. Taking cognisance of the issue, the Tamil Nadu Cyber Crime Wing acted swiftly against the rampant digital piracy of the Rs 500-crore political action thriller.
As per India Today reports, the cyber crime branch has arrested six people allegedly involved in the leak of the film. The accused are in judicial custody. Reports claim they used cloud storage and shared the drive links online.
'Jana Nayagan' was expected to release in January, but ran into trouble with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
What should have been a cinematic farewell before Vijay's transition into politics has instead turned into a nightmare for its makers.
CBFC Dismisses Rumours
Dismissing rumours the leak happened via the CBFC system, the board issued a statement released by PIB on X.
The statement read, "Reports claiming that the Tamil film 'Jana Nayagan' was leaked from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) are baseless and misleading. CBFC has clarified that it follows a secure KDM (Key Delivery Message) system for all theatrical films submitted for certification. Access to the content is password-protected, and the KDM remains solely with the producer/filmmaker. Without a valid KDM, the film cannot be accessed or viewed."
