Bank Holidays 2025: Banks in several states across the nation including Maharashtra, Gujarat and Karnataka will remain closed on Wednesday, February 26 on account of Mahashivratri.

According to the RBI holiday calendar, banking activities that require the functioning of branches will remain suspended on the day. It is important to note that only the bank branches remain closed on bank holidays. Facilities such as net banking and ATMs continue to function as usual even on a bank holiday.

Banks across India remain closed on national holidays, all Sundays as well as the second and fourth Saturdays of each month. Bank closure on festivals varies from state to state depending on the regional observance. Further, bank operations remain suspended on special closure announced by the Centre and government of the respective state where the branch is located.

The RBI classifies banking holidays into three broad categories: holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act, Real Time Gross Settlement Holidays, and Banks' Closing of Accounts.
