Communications platform Truecaller has rolled out an artificial intelligence-powered Message IDs feature that cuts through the clutter of SMS messages and spam in your inbox and identifies critical messages that you might miss.

Now live in India and 30 other countries, the Message IDs feature uses AI and large language models to scan the SMS inbox on your device — keeping data private and not sharing externally — and identify important business messages. These could range from bank alerts and OTPs to delivery updates, flight itineraries and payment reminders.

Truecaller Message IDs Work Across Languages

The AI feature summarises key details of the messages, highlights what matters and helps you take action quickly. According to Truecaller, the feature isn't restricted to Premium users or English speakers, and can identify messages in Hindi, Swahili, Spanish and more.

Users just need to give the app two permissions — Read SMS and Display Over Other Apps — to get real-time notifications for critical updates without scrolling through the clutter.

With the latest AI integration, Message IDs are no longer limited to transactional messages, OTPs or delivery updates. Truecaller can now detect and highlight any important message, regardless of its category. Even if it's an informational update that falls outside conventional SMS types, users will receive a relevant Message ID.

Additionally, Truecaller has added another layer of trust — Green Message IDs — in a bid to protect users from scams and spoofed messages. These come with a verified tick, confirming that the message is from a legitimate, verified business. Think of it as a digital thumbs-up from Truecaller saying, "Hey, you can trust this."

"With the integration of AI in Message IDs for both premium and non-premium users, we're providing people with a smarter, more secure way to manage their important SMS messages," John Joseph, product director of insights at Truecaller, said. "Our mission is to make communication safer and more efficient, and this innovation represents the next step in our journey."
