Apple may once again shelve offering a black colour option for its upcoming iPhone 18 Pro lineup. Despite expectations that Apple might bring back black this year, the latest leak suggests otherwise. If true, this would mark the second consecutive year the company has skipped the classic finish for its flagship Pro models. At the same time, the upcoming models are expected to bring some new design and hardware changes, including possible tweaks to the display cutout and internal components.
Informing about the same, a tipster known as Instant Digital shared a post on Weibo claiming that the black variant has been “axed again” for the iPhone 18 Pro series. The tipster has also noted that the company has not officially confirmed any colour options yet.
“It looks like the black colour option for the iPhone 18 Pro has been axed again. That's a bummer,” wrote Instant Digital in Chinese.
This follows a similar move with last year's iPhone 17 Pro, which notably launched without a black option. It was the first for Apple's flagship lineup since the original iPhone debuted in 2007.
Instead of black, Apple previously introduced colours like blue, silver, and a new orange shade dubbed “Cosmic Orange.” The orange variant reportedly performed particularly well in markets such as China, contributing to strong sales and helping the device stand out visually.
iPhone 18 Pro models To Come In Red Finish?
Separately, CNET said in its report that Apple could be testing a deep red finish for the iPhone 18 Pro models. According to earlier insights shared by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the company may be exploring red as a new flagship colour for the next iPhone Pros, possibly influenced by the success of the orange variant.

iPhone 18 Pro: Features
Beyond colours, the iPhone 18 Pro lineup is expected to feature several design and hardware upgrades. These may include a pill-shaped cutout for Face ID, but in a smaller size instead of switching to a hole punch. This may be achieved by potentially reducing the size by shifting some components under the display. It could shrink to around 13.49 mm from about 20.76 mm. The standard iPhone 18 models are likely to remain unchanged.
The devices could also be powered by a new 2nm A20 Pro chip, pack a battery exceeding 5,000mAh, and offer improved cameras with a larger aperture. The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are expected to launch in September this year, with a foldable iPhone possibly arriving about a month later.
