Apple's next “e-series” iPhone is expected to arrive on Feb. 19, almost exactly a year after the iPhone 16e was launched. A Thursday release would be unusual for the US-based tech giant as the company typically favours early week announcements.
The iPhone 17e sits in Apple's newer mid-cycle pattern—a spring refresh aimed at offering updated hardware without waiting for the main September lineup.
MagSafe likely returns
One of the biggest complaints about the 16e was the charging. The next version is expected to add MagSafe, reportedly supporting speeds up to 25W, a jump from the earlier Qi-only limit of 7.5W, reported Macworld.com.
The rear camera setup is not expected to change much. Most leaks still describe a single 48MP camera, keeping costs controlled. On the front, an 18MP sensor is possible, matching the broader iPhone 17 range, the report added.
Chip and modem updates
The device is widely tipped to use Apple's A19 chip, though likely a “binned” version with one fewer GPU core than the standard iPhone 17, the report mentioned.
On connectivity, the 17e may shift from the C1 modem to a newer C1X modem, said to be faster and power efficient. It is not yet confirmed whether ultra-wideband support or expanded tethering will be added.
Display and design
A 6.1-inch OLED display is expected. The refresh rate should stay at 60Hz. The current notch design may continue, though some sources suggest a move toward Dynamic Island. Bezels could be slightly thinner, based on supplier reports. Whereas, the colour options are likely to stay simple - black and white.
Apple's February strategy reflects a move away from the old iPhone SE cycle. The “e” line now acts as a controlled update window - newer chips, limited design shifts, stable pricing. For now, the focus is practical: faster charging, updated silicon, and a familiar design.
