Elon Musk's xAI has unveiled the new Grok 3 series of models, which include two reasoning models, an AI agent named Deep Search and a pre-trained model that resembles GPT-4o.

Musk referred to Grok 3 as "the smartest AI on Earth" during the event and used a number of benchmark tests and graphs to demonstrate the chatbot's sophisticated thinking abilities. According to Musk and his AI team, Grok 3's sophisticated reasoning powers outperform those of current AI models.

“It really should save you a lot of time. So something that might take you half an hour or an hour of researching on the web or searching social media, you can just ask it to go do that and come back, and 10 minutes later, it's done an hour's worth of work for you. That's really what it comes down to, exactly, and maybe better than you could have done it yourself,” Musk said during the launch.

According to Musk, Grok3 will get daily updates and, in a week, a voice interaction capability. The Grok3 deployment will begin today for X Premium Plus customers, according to the xAI team. Grok3's sophisticated capabilities will first be available to Premium Plus subscribers. To use these capabilities, users will need to update their X app to the most recent version.

According to an xAI team member, the Grok voice assistant is presently undergoing refinement and will be accessible to users in the upcoming weeks.

"We're starting a separate subscription for Grok that we call super Grok, for those who are those real Grok fans that one of the most advanced capabilities and earliest access to new features," a team member added.

Grok 3 Outperforms Other AI Models

During the launch, Musk and his team shared various tests and graphs to showcase Grok 3's capabilities:

Grok's New Website

Musk and his team declared that Grok's new website, Grok.com, has gone live. The Grok 3 updates are available at the Grok iOS app and is also available for pre-registration on the Google Play Store, even though it wasn't announced at the event.

Grok 3's Computational Power

Musk had described the AI chatbot as “scary smart,” and that has rubbed off on tech enthusiasts, investors, and general users, who expect Grok 3 will take speed, reasoning, and real-time engagement a step further and reduce inaccurate results and hallucinations.

According to xAI, their Colossus supercomputer, which was created in a matter of eight months, sped up the development of Grok 3. With 100,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs, the system offered 200 million GPU-hours for training, which is ten times more than Grok 2, its predecessor. Because of this increase in computational power, Grok 3 has been able to process huge datasets, increasing accuracy and cutting down on training times.

Grok 3 includes synthetic datasets and has also been built to continuously learn and self-correct.

From Grok 3 To DeepSeek To ChatGPT: AI Space Heats Up

The Grok 3 launch comes at a time when China’s DeepSeek has upended the AI world. DeepSeek’s low-cost reasoning model R1 has cost AI giants like Tesla, Nvidia, Google, Microsoft (linked to OpenAI), Meta, and others hundreds of billions of dollars in value. Furthermore, the Chinese AI bot was the most downloaded free app in the US on the Apple App Store and compares favourably with the top models from ChatGPT creator OpenAI such as o1.
