Bayern Munich have brought a special Diwali surprise for their Indian fans with a unique jersey designed by Indian surrealist artist Abhay Sehgal.

Although the German club competes in the Bundesliga, it enjoys a significant following across the Indian subcontinent.

The special creation brings together football, Indian heritage and traditional craftsmanship, with Bayern stars including Harry Kane and Serge Gnabry getting a glimpse of the design as part of the club's Diwali celebrations.

Featuring a vibrant colour palette and intricate Indian-inspired artwork, the jersey reflects the spirit of Diwali while drawing inspiration from Sehgal's childhood memories and his passion for football.

The collaboration also highlights Bayern's efforts to strengthen its connection with supporters in India by bringing local art and culture into the world of European football.

Harry Kane, who recently won the 2026 Ballon d'Or, also expressed his appreciation for the artist's work. "Special thanks to Abhay for creating and sharing such a special design with us this Diwali, all the way from India," the Bayern Munich striker said.

For Sehgal, the collaboration was an opportunity to bring together two worlds that have shaped his life: art and football. Given creative freedom by Bayern, he chose to make the design deeply personal, drawing inspiration from his childhood while also reflecting the dreams and aspirations of young footballers in India.

Every element of the jersey carries a story. A clock tower represents Sehgal's boarding school days, while an image of a child sitting on a cloud and looking down at the structure is accompanied by a shooting star.

Another striking feature is the depiction of two festive elephants surrounding a golden moon, adding to the cultural significance of the design.

"This third kit was an interesting gig because I got the creative freedom to basically create anything, and I wanted the concept to be something personal which represents my childhood, but at the same time represents the future of the kids who are playing football in India," Sehgal noted.

Through his artwork, Sehgal has also sought to convey a meaningful message about staying grounded and not allowing success to take away one's humility.

The design combines hand-painted artwork with traditional Indian block-printing techniques and embroidery, giving the jersey a distinctive identity.

"There is a moon, and there are two elephants around it. The moon, being in the middle, is a representation of football, what football means to me," Sehgal added.

For the artist, the project represents a special milestone in his creative journey, bringing together his love for art, Indian heritage and football.

The collaboration also offers a glimpse into how traditional Indian craftsmanship can find a place on an international sporting platform.

Through this initiative, Bayern Munich have sought to build a stronger cultural connection with their Indian supporters.

By bringing Indian artistic traditions into the club's football identity, the Bundesliga side has highlighted how sport can connect people and cultures across geographical boundaries.
