To contain the surge, Maharashtra government has announced new curbs that will stay in effect till April 30.

  • Prohibitory orders under the Section 144, that bar gatherings of five or more people, will be in place throughout the day.
  • Night curfew will be enforced from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. daily, when no one will be allowed to leave their homes—medical and other essential services stand excluded.
  • A weekend lockdown will start from Friday 8 p.m. and be in place till Monday 7 a.m.

Authorities have administered nearly 8 crore vaccination shots since the inoculation drive began in January, with more than 16 lakh beneficiaries receiving the jab in just the last 24 hours.
