Several parts of the national capital experienced power cuts today as the demand rose to 4,214 MW which is the highest this winter.
The city has been witnessing power cuts this winter as the power generating companies are producing less quantum of electricity due to shortage of coal.
Several areas in South Delhi, East Delhi and West Delhi suffered loading shedding with distribution companies carrying out cuts on rotation basis.
Power Department officials said a number of coal-based power stations have curtailed supply to Delhi due to a sudden increase in the power demand.
The maximum load yesterday was 4122 MW but today it increased by over 8 per cent to touch 4214 MW, which is the highest this season.
The highest demand in winter last year was 3934 MW on January 29.
"Total demand met in Delhi in 24 hours from mid-night of 7th January, 2013 till midnight of 8th January 2013 was 70.846 million units, out of which 69.596 million units was met and 1.184 million units was shed due to restricted overdrawal at low frequency and 0.066 million units was shed due to transmission and distribution constraints," officials said.
