Stock Market Today Live Updates Today, September 28, 2026: Indian benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty50 opened lower on Monday, tracking renewed geopolitical tensions between the US and Iran and uptick in crude oll prices.
The BSE Sensex opened at 73,734.83, down from its previous close of 73,895.74. Meanwhile, the Nifty50 opened at 23,064.90 against its previous close of 23,140.50.
Barring TCS and Tech Mahindra, all shares were trading in the negative zone in the 30-share BSE Sensex index.
Broader markets, too, traded lower. Nifty Small Cap 100 index fell 0.70% while Nifty Mid Cap 100 index dropped 0.68%.

Bank Nifty Index Slips Below 55,000; Yes Bank, IDFC First, PNB, SBI Top Drags
The Bank Nifty index also slumped over 800 points, or 1.6%, to an intraday low of 54,691.55.
Barring Federal Bank, all other constituents of the Bank Nifty index traded in the red.
Yes Bank was the top loser on the index with more than 4% plunge. Union Bank of India, IDFC First Bank, Canara Bank, Punjab National Bank (PNB) and State Bank of India (SBI) were other top laggards, with 2-3% fall each.
The fall in banking stocks dragged the Bank Nifty index below the key support level of 55,000. Analysts believe holding below this zone could intensify selling pressure and drag the index towards 54,400.

Beneficiaries under the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for large-scale electronics manufacturing have received incentives totalling Rs 19,090.98 crore till June 2026, according to government data cited by PTI.

At the latest check, Brent crude oil was trading 0.80% higher at $98.22 per barrel. Oil prices had fallen sharply last week as Washington and Tehran held discussions on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
