Indian equity benchmarks extended their gains in noon trade on Friday after a muted start, led by buying in auto and pharma stocks.

At the last count, the BSE Sensex was up 304 points, or 0.4%, at 78,236, while the NSE Nifty50 gained 99.85 points, or 0.41%, to trade at 24,417.00.

Meanwhile, Wall Street closed sharply higher on Thursday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 613.92 points, or 1.2%, to end at 52,208.06. The S&P 500 climbed 1.7% to settle at 7,437.64, and the Nasdaq Composite surged 2.8% to close at 25,122.18.

Microsoft shares jumped 16% after its Azure cloud business posted stronger-than-expected growth, adding close to $450 billion to its market value in a single session. 

That rally has carried into Asian trade this morning. South Korea's Kospi surged more than 16%, triggering a trading halt, as chipmakers SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics extended their rally on AI-linked demand. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 and Hong Kong's Hang Seng are also tracking higher in early trade.

On the commodities front, Brent crude is holding near $86 a barrel, staying elevated on continuing Middle East tensions and fresh supply concerns after an attack on a Caspian Pipeline Consortium terminal.

Leela Palaces Hotels and Resorts reported a more than six-fold jump in net profit for the June quarter, driven by strong growth in revenue and improved operating margins. The company's net profit rose to Rs 49 crore in the June quarter of FY27 from Rs 8.8 crore a year earlier (Q1FY26).

Stock Market Live: Eternal Or Swiggy? Check Jefferies' Pick

Zomato-parent Eternal continues to lead over Swiggy across India's food delivery and quick commerce businesses, however the competitive gap is starting to narrow in profitability, according to a new comparative study by Jefferies. The brokerage compared the two companies across the past nine quarters and concluded that Eternal has strengthened its leadership through superior execution, larger scale and better unit economics.

It said the company has expanded its lead in food delivery, while its quick commerce business, Blinkit, continues to dominate on metrics such as dark store footprint, monthly transacting users, order volumes and gross order value.

Jefferies further noted that Eternal now accounts for 74% of quick commerce gross order value, compared with 26% for Swiggy, while Blinkit operates 68% of the sector's dark stores versus 32% for Instamart. According to the brokerage, Blinkit's scale advantage has translated into better profitability, making Eternal the leader across most operating metrics.

  • The price increases come as manufacturers grapple with higher costs for palm oil derivatives, chemicals and packaging materials.

  • GCPL derives 63.3% of its revenue from India, with the household insecticide business contributing 22% of total revenue. Good Knight accounts for around 90% of this segment's revenue.

  • The company had previously indicated that rising crude oil and palm oil prices could impact costs and said it would use a combination of price hikes, cost savings and media optimisation to protect margins.

Stock Market Live: Kospi Jumps 16%

Asia-Pacific markets opened higher on Friday, July 31, as investors focused technology shares after blockbuster earnings from Microsoft and Amazon reignited optimism around artificial intelligence spending.

South Korea's Kospi surged more than 16%, rebounding sharply after a three-day rout, while Japan's Nikkei 225 soared over 6%. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 gained 0.89%, lifting the broader MSCI Asia Pacific Index higher.
