Indian benchmark indices closed lower after giving up sharp early gains in a volatile trading session. Nifty 50 ended down 0.02% at 23,654.70, while Sensex closed 0.18% lower at 75,183.36. Intraday, Nifty fell as much as 0.3% to 23,596 after rising as much as 0.9% to 23,859 earlier in the day. Sensex dropped as much as 321 points to 74,996 after touching an intraday high of 75,945 in morning trade.
Grasim Industries contributed the most to Nifty 50 gains at close, adding 16.49 points to the index. ICICI Bank, IndiGo, Apollo Hospitals and Bharat Electronics also supported the benchmark. Reliance Industries was the biggest drag on the Nifty 50, followed by Bharti Airtel and Infosys. Bajaj Finance and Hindustan Unilever also weighed on the index.
Nifty India Defence was the top-performing sectoral index at close, gaining 1.43%. Nifty Realty also ended over 1% higher, while Nifty Energy and Auto indices closed with gains. Nifty IT was the worst-performing sectoral index, falling 0.56%. Nifty FMCG, Media, Bank and Financial Services indices also closed lower.
Meanwhile, oil prices rose after a sharp fall on Wednesday as US President Donald Trump said Washington was in the “final stages” with Iran. Brent traded above $105 a barrel after dropping 5.6% in the previous session, while WTI was near $99. Traders are tracking talks that could lead to a restart of energy flows through the Strait of Hormuz.

The company said new stores and improving traction in new units are expected to support growth in the current financial year.

Morgan Stanley maintained an overweight rating on Lenskart with a target price of Rs 576, citing a Q4 beat and focus on sustaining growth. The brokerage said the company reiterated its 25% steady-state Ebitda margin target and expects FY27 store additions to be similar to FY26.
Jefferies maintained a buy rating and raised its target price to Rs 600 from Rs 575. The brokerage cited growth, margin gains and management’s focus on compounding growth.
Morgan Stanley maintained an equal-weight rating on Jubilant FoodWorks with a target price of Rs 486, citing a weak Q4 and margin pressure from LPG, labour and commodity costs.
Jefferies maintained a buy rating but cut its target price to Rs 600 from Rs 850, saying a pick-up in earnings growth is still awaited. Macquarie maintained an underperform rating with a target price of Rs 390, citing concerns over Jubilant’s ability to achieve 5–7% like-for-like growth over the next few quarters.
Jefferies maintained a buy rating on Grasim Industries and raised its target price to Rs 3,600 from Rs 3,440, citing a Q4 beat led by VSF performance and lower losses in new businesses.
Citi also maintained a buy rating and raised its target price to Rs 3,600 from Rs 3,450. The brokerage said Grasim’s paints market share crossed 10% and expects the stock to be driven by cement and paints, with support from VSF and chemicals.
Morgan Stanley said Birla Opus gained 90 basis points market share sequentially and crossed 10% paints market share in March 2026. It said competitive intensity remains high in the paints segment.
Morgan Stanley maintained an overweight rating on Apollo Hospitals with a target price of Rs 8,833, citing revenue growth, narrowing digital losses and a Q4 beat led by operating leverage.
Macquarie maintained an underperform rating with a target price of Rs 6,230. The brokerage said Apollo’s Q4 results were a modest beat and noted that the market may view the valuation of the Cloudnine transaction as underwhelming.
Morgan Stanley maintained an overweight rating on PI Industries with a target price of Rs 3,883.
The brokerage expects the company to move cautiously into FY27 and anticipates a return to positive revenue growth during the year, with improved prospects across agchem verticals. It said the pharma business may take two to three years to scale to twice its current revenue base, which it sees as a key level for margin improvement.
