A 27-year-old private bank staffer, Yogeshwari, lost her life on Monday after being struck by a speeding Bullet motorbike opposite her workplace on Dr Rajkumar Road, in Rajajinagar in Bengaluru, reported The Times of India. Yogeshwari, a resident of Kempegowda Layout, Laggere, was crossing the road around 1 p.m. with a lunch packet in hand when the motorbike, driven by Deepak from Ulsoor, hit her.

Yogeshwari reportedly worked at the HDFC Bank in Rajajinagar. Police said Deepak, who is a student, was riding at high speed at the time of the collision. "Yogeshwari and a few other colleagues often bought their lunch from an eatery opposite the bank. On Monday, she was crossing the road holding the lunch packet when Deepak rammed into her," an investigating officer was quoted as saying by The Times of India.

A colleague walking just a few steps behind told Deccan Herald that, "We were returning from lunch and had just crossed part of the road when the biker, speeding at high speed, struck her with such force that she was thrown across. I was completely in shock."

The police said that the biker also lost control, skidding nearly 100 meters along the road. While the rider remained conscious and was taken to a hospital by a passersby, Yogeshwari sustained critical internal injuries along with multiple fractures.

Both Yogeshwari and Deepak sustained head injuries and were rushed to a nearby private hospital. Yogeshwari succumbed to her injuries around 9 p.m.

A case for reckless and negligent driving has been registered against Deepak. Police added that they will record his statement once he recovers. The Police also cautioned that the stretch is narrow due to ongoing white-topping work, and motorists are expected to reduce speed.

A day before this incident, a two-year-old boy was killed when a car collided with the two-wheeler he was riding on and ran over him on Old Madras Road near Kashappa Circle in east Bengaluru on Sunday evening. The next day, residents protested, blaming damaged roads and delayed repair work for the fatal accident.
