Actor-turned-politician Vijay is poised to head what may be Tamil Nadu's first coalition government in recent decades, with his Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) said to have secured the numbers needed for a majority through support from smaller parties, sources told NDTV.
As part of the evolving power-sharing arrangement, ministerial berths are expected to be allotted to alliance partners backing the Vijay-led formation.
Sources told NDTV that the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) is likely to get one Cabinet position, while two ministries may be reserved for the Left parties — the Communist Party of India (CPI) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM).

The three parties, which have two MLAs each in the Assembly, formally extended support to TVK after high-level consultations earlier in the day, sources said.
All three had contested the election as allies of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).
According to sources, DMK chief M. K. Stalin had allowed allies to independently decide their stand on supporting TVK.
Sources further indicated that VCK chief Thol. Thirumavalavan may himself join the Cabinet in the proposed government.
The Indian National Congress is also expected to seek two ministerial berths in the coalition arrangement, sources added.
