Banks across India will remain operational on May 3, the first Saturday of the month. Compared to April, May will be relatively busier for banks due to fewer public holidays.

On Saturday, the public and private sector banks across India will remain open, allowing customers and businesses to carry out their transactions as usual. However, it is recommended to check the operating hours with local branches to avoid any inconvenience.

According to the Reserve Bank of India holiday calendar, banks remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month, in addition to the Sundays and scheduled public holidays.

“All scheduled and non-scheduled banks will observe public holidays on the second and fourth Saturdays,” the central bank mentions on its website.

Notably, the month of May has five Saturdays, just like March this year. This means that May 3, 17 and 31 will be operational for the banks. Meanwhile, May 10 and 24 will be observed as holidays.

This month, a total of seven weekday public holidays are scheduled, but most of these are region-specific. Banks remained closed on May 1 in Maharashtra on account of the public holiday for the state foundation day. In other states, like Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Manipur, Kerala, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Goa and Bihar, banks were also shut on account of Labour Day.
