With January already at halfway mark, banks have seen limited activity due to festivals, elections and regional events. This may have led to questions about banking activities during the weekends as January has five Saturdays.

The coming Saturday is the third Saturday of the month. According to RBI guidelines, banks are usually operational on all Saturdays except the second and fourth, unless a festival or holiday is declared.

This time, only one state will observe the third Saturday as a bank holiday due to the festival. In all other states, banking operations will continue as usual. Customers are advised to plan their visits accordingly and check with their local branch for any changes.

Tamil Nadu To Observe Bank Holiday On Jan. 17

According to the RBI calendar, only Tamil Nadu will observe a bank holiday on Jan. 17. Uzhavar Thirunal, or Farmers' Festival falls on the third day of the festival.

While physical bank branches in Chennai and other districts of Tamil Nadu will remain closed on the third Saturday due to Uzhavar Thirunal, digital banking services will continue to operate as usual. This means online transactions, mobile banking, and ATM services will not be affected.
