Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar said the opposition was desperate as they had no issue and wanted to "make capital" out of the tragedy of a ex-serviceman's suicide.

Replying to a specific question on the detention of Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi during protests over the suicide by army veteran Ram Kishan Grewal, Javadekar told reporters here: "everybody knows that Congress has denied OROP (One Rank-One Pension). Modi's is the first government which gave Rs 6,500 crore by which millions of ex-army men benefited."

Everybody knows that they (opposition) want to make capital out of the tragedy which they should not have done.
Prakash Javadekar, HRD Minister

"Clearly I can say that all anomalies are sorted out and there is no case (on OROP)," Javadekar added.

Nitish Kumar Seeks Clarity

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said the alleged suicide by the ex-serviceman highlighted the lacunae in implementation of OROP and asked the Centre to come out with clarity on it.

The Centre announced with fanfare about implementation of OROP. If it was started why was an ex-serviceman was forced to commit suicide over it. This means that what was told about OROP and its implementation is not complete," Kumar said slamming the NDA government at the Centre for the tragedy.

Practically it appears that the scheme is not being implemented properly due to which such a incident happened. This (alleged suicide by ex-serviceman Ram Kishan Grewal) is an example of lacunae in implementation of OROP.

Kumar, who is also the JD(U) president, asked the Centre "to come out with more clarity on OROP implementation" to ensure that former soldiers genuinely benefited from it.

He had yesterday expressed grief over death of Grewal and slammed the Centre saying it reflected its "double standards" towards soldiers.

In reply to a question by newsmen about Congress Vice-president Rahul Gandhi's detention over the ex-serviceman's death, Kumar said "Every party has its own plan how to agitate over an issue."
