Amidst an acute gas shortage in Maharashtra, several industries in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (formerly Aurangabad) are facing a major crisis due to the Iran-Israel war.
Five companies have already shut down and around 45 others are at risk of closure, according to Chamber of Marathwada Industries and Agriculture (CMIA) president Utsav Machhar, as reported by PTI.
The district accommodates heavy industries like automobile, steel, engineering, and pharmaceuticals, which requirenearly 250-300 tonnes of gas daily, including LPG and natural gas.

The delay in vehicles, medicines, and other materials will affect the market flow. The scarcity of gas has raised chaos within the employment market and production units.
An appeal has been made to state and central authorities to urgently restore gas supplies by industrial zones in Chakan, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. This includes Tier-2 and Tier-3 vendors, along with major manufacturers of automobiles, who have been hit hardest by the gas shortage.
The district administration's civil supplies department issued a circular on Thursday to oil giants directing petrol pumpsto ensure sufficient stocks are stored for government vehicles assigned for essential services.
Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri said earlier that energy imports are flowing smoothly into India from routes unaffected by the conflict and the government is taking all necessary measures.
