The Union government clarified on Thursday that it has no proposal to introduce such a measure, terming the reports of ethanol blending in aviation turbine fuel "completely false and irresponsible".
Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu said the government neither proposed nor examined the use of ethanol in ATF.
He warned that misleading claims about aviation fuel could needlessly alarm passengers and erode public confidence in the safety of air travel.
The minister stressed that ethanol and sustainable aviation fuel are distinct fuels and should not be confused. "While ethanol is widely used in the road transport sector through petrol blending programmes, it has no role in aviation turbine fuel under the current regulatory framework," he said

The clarification comes amid claims circulating on social media and other platforms suggesting that the government intended to introduce ethanol blending in aviation fuel.
Kinjarapu said SAF is an internationally recognised aviation fuel certified under global standards and endorsed by the International Civil Aviation Organisation.
Unlike ethanol, SAF undergoes extensive testing and certification to ensure it meets stringent safety, performance and operational requirements before it is approved for use in aircraft.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation said such assertions are factually incorrect and do not reflect any official policy or proposal.
Reiterating the government's commitment to aviation safety, the minister said passenger safety remains the highest priority and all decisions relating to aviation fuel are guided by internationally accepted technical and safety standards.
The government also urged the public to rely on verified information and official communications, warning that misinformation on sensitive issues such as aviation safety can fuel unwarranted anxiety and confusion among passengers.
