Govt Clarifies Oil Situation With Data

A day ago, government issued a press release informing that India's petroleum and LPG supply situation is fully secure and under control.

“All retail fuel outlets have enough supplies. There is no shortage of petrol, diesel, or LPG anywhere in the country,” the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas said.

It noted that as a major refiner and exporter, supply remains stable nationwide and all fuel stations are operating normally.

“Where isolated instances of panic buying occurred at select pumps, they were driven by deliberate misinformation spread by certain videos in social media,” referring to viral videos from Indore and elsewhere, where large crowds were spotted outside petrol pumps recently.

According to the ministry, India has secured crude oil supplies despite concerns around the Strait of Hormuz. This comes as the US-Iran war entered its fourth week, resulting in massive disruption to global oil flow through the critical sea route.

The government noted that India currently has over 41 global suppliers and increased availability from other regions. Additionally, the refineries are operating above capacity, due to which the supplies for the next 60 days are already secured.

India is completely secure for the next many months and the quantity in strategic cavern storage becomes secondary in such a supply situation,” the ministry assured.
