Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Thursday that all migrant workers in need will be given a job under the government's Garib Kalyan Rojgar initiative. The Finance Minister was addressing a curtain raiser of the launch of the Garib Kalyan Rojgar programme, aimed at creating employment in rural parts of the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan through video conferencing on Saturday, June 20. Under the programme, the government will conduct campaigns in 116 districts in six states - Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Odisha - for a period of 125 days to help migrant workers, having returned home on account of the countrywide lockdown to curb the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan programme includes the creation of infrastructure through public works worth Rs 50,000 crore to support job creation in rural India.
