The government may issue guidelines on new telecom licences, called Unified Licences, next month, a top official said today.
"We are expecting that (UL guidelines) in the month of February. The detailed guideline with regard to the UL and the process of issuing UL and the process of migration of existing licence should commence," Telecom Secretary R. Chandrashekhar told reporters on the sidelines of an event.
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has issued broad guidelines of UL in the notice inviting applications issued in September 2012.
According to the broad features, telecom companies holding unified licences will be able to provide all services that existing licences permit as well as share spectrum and other active part of telecom infrastructure that were not permitted earlier.
