CMIE or the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy told NDTV that at an absolute level the number of project announcements in the first quarter of 2015-16 has gone down 53 per cent compared to the previous quarter.
CMIE is an independent economic think-tank headquartered in Mumbai and provides business and economic data.
Mahesh Vyas, managing director and CEO at CMIE, said the new projects announced in the April-June period stood at Rs 1.2 lakh crore.
As far as government projects are concerned, Q1 was the second straight quarter that saw a fall in project announcements, CMIE said.
While the number of stalled projects has fallen since the Narendra Modi-government took over, it is partially because projects were abandoned in Q1, the think tank said.
During the period under review Rs1 lakh crore worth projects were completed, CMIE said.
