The government collected Rs 19.34 lakh crore in Goods and Services Tax (GST) after refunds, a 7% year-on-year growth, in the financial year ended March 31, 2026, according to provisional data released on Wednesday. Gross collections rose 8.3% to Rs 22.27 lakh crore from Rs 20.55 lakh crore.

For the month of March, net GST collections rose 8.2% to Rs 1.78 lakh crore and gross mop up increased nearly 9% to Rs 2 lakh crore, aided by tax mop-ups from domestic sales as well as imports. The gross collection was the highest in 10 months.

The uptick last month follows a dip in February when collections came in at Rs 1.84 lakh crore. 

Gross domestic revenues rose 5.9% to over Rs 1.46 lakh crore, while those from imports grew 17.8% to Rs 53,861 crore. Refund issuance during March rose 13.8% to Rs 22,074 crore, the data showed.

Monthly collections remained largely in the range of Rs 1.70-1.96 lakh crore between June 2025 and January 2026, with November recording the lowest level at Rs 1.7 lakh crore after the government rationalised GST rates in September.
