  • The merger aims to build a Rs 2,000-3,000 crore sportswear business in four to six years
  • Kohli remains One8 co-founder and involved in product design, technology, and brand development

Virat Kohli's stake in Agilitas Sports has increased to 6.4% from 1.8% following the National Company Law Tribunal's (NCLT) Mumbai Bench approval for the merger of One8 Sports Private Limited with Agilitas Sports Private Limited. The merger consolidates the One8 brand within Agilitas' sportswear business as the company sets its sights on building a Rs 2,000-3,000 crore business over the next four to six years.

Kohli had previously invested Rs 40 crore in Agilitas. Under the merged structure, the cricketer will continue as One8's co-founder and remain closely involved in developing the brand.

The integration is expected to give One8 access to Agilitas' capabilities across product development, design, research and development, manufacturing and retail. The move is aimed at strengthening the brand's ability to scale operations, expand its product portfolio and compete in international markets.

Times of India reported that Kohli said building a sportswear brand while continuing his playing career had long been a personal ambition. He added that he had been involved in the brand's development from the outset, including decisions on technology, materials and design.

“The aspiration is for the brand to outlast all of us, become a part of people's lifestyle and ultimately stand on its own,” Kohli said.

According to the report, Abhishek Ganguly, co-founder and CEO of Agilitas Sports, said building a global sportswear brand from India would require more than brand recognition and distribution. The integration, he said, would give One8 access to the broader capabilities needed to develop products and take them to consumers.

Agilitas plans to expand One8 into additional sporting categories and international markets, including the US, UK, Canada and Australia. The company is considering both direct expansion and partnerships with distributors.

Agilitas' portfolio includes One8, Lotto, Mochiko Shoes, its sports footwear manufacturing business, and Sports Yard, its multi-brand retail format.

Mochiko manufactures footwear for several global brands, including Adidas, Puma, New Balance, Skechers, Reebok, Asics, Crocs, Decathlon, Clarks and US Polo.

Ganguly said recent brand launches were gaining traction, with Lotto generating more than Rs 100 crore in its first year in India. Agilitas also plans to open 10 Sports Yard stores over the next six months and launch a third brand shortly.

The company is preparing to raise equity capital through a private funding round in the coming months to support expansion across retail, manufacturing and brand-building.

Ganguly said Agilitas' broader ambition was to build a significant global sportswear company from India, pointing to international businesses such as China's Anta and the growth of Hoka as examples of opportunities in the sector. He said the company wanted Indian brands to move beyond the domestic market and establish a stronger presence globally.
