Tech Mahindra Ltd. unveiled its new network service strategy designed to help telecom service providers transform and modernise their networks faster.

The strategy will lower the cost of ownership and generate new revenue stream for clients, the information technology firm said in a press release.

In an era where the data traffic is projected to continue to grow at 49 percent compounded annual growth rate, the industry is poised for disruption. To meet the growing demands our customers will need to create programmable elastic networks, agile operations and new revenue streams.

“The operators need to transform the way they work. There is too much disruption in the sector currently with data service and voice calling made free,” Balaji TS, vice president of network engineering at Tech Mahindra, told BloombergQuint in a phone interview.

Tech Mahindra is looking to introduce additional services pertaining to transportation and logistics, which goes past traditional voice calling and data, Balaji added.

Three-Pronged Approach

Tech Mahindra's new strategy is built around key three themes - run better, change faster, and grow greater.

The company will endevour to help clients run better through use of tools, analytics and automation. Tech Mahindra currently has 10 to 20 tools, which will be used to get processes right in the first shot, explained Balaji. Tools which enhance programme management and identify customer behaviour will also be used for better functionality.

Tech Mahindra will help companies change faster by leveraging its exposure to upcoming technologies to “provide cost-effective disruptive solutions”. The Mahindra Group company is currently collaborating with startups like Onlads, Brokaid and Affirmed for new age solutions, Balaji added.

The company will help operators grow by collaborating with larger businesses to create “end-to-end monetisable solutions” in segments like smart cities, connected cars and mobile health.

Good Move For Tech Mahindra?

Tech Mahindra's focus on network services is good but challenging move for the company says Amresh Nandan, Research Director of Gartner.

Being a network services partner at this time when new technologies, architectures and operation models are to be implemented, calls for significant change in the way Tech Mahindra engages and delivers. It requires significant skill development and investments in partnerships, tools and capabilities. At the same time, it requires a change in market positioning, where telcos see their IT partner as someone capable of helping in network transformation.
