Shemaroo Entertainment Ltd. is betting on its vast library of old movies to drive growth, while peers focus on creating new content.
“Films have a very high shelf life and we consume movies that are 10-15 years old. That's one key premise on which the business model has been predicated,” Hiren Gada, chief executive officer of Shemaroo Entertainment, told BloombergQuint. “Growth numbers might look smaller, but that's because of a larger base.”
The company will focus on increasing its library through acquiring copyrights, he said. Shemaroo has a total of 3,751 films—Hindi, regional and special interest content—in its content library.
