(Bloomberg) -- A 53-year-old Swiss man who lost more than 6,000 francs ($5,900) in cash when it fell out of his car has reclaimed it, according to the Zurich police.
The man, who hails from eastern Switzerland, was able to reclaim the bundle of large-denomination notes from the city's lost-and-found office on Wednesday after an 85-year-old pensioner discovered the stash on the side of a road and turned it in.
Although card terminals are widely available, the Swiss have a proclivity for paying with bills. The Swiss National Bank has declined to follow the lead of euro-area officials and scrap its most valuable note, worth 1,000 francs. Still, the episode in the country's banking hub was odd enough to garner media attention, which in turn allowed the owner to reclaim his property.

“Such a large sum is rather rare,” although wallets with smaller amounts of money are frequently handed over, said Roland Staempfli, a spokesman for the police. “There are still honest people.”
The pensioner was given a reward of more than 10 percent of the sum.
