Iran's embassy in South Africa publicly ridiculed President Donald Trump on Wednesday after he claimed credit for saving eight Iranian women protesters from execution. The diplomatic account posted, "Hurray, Trump saved 8 AI-generated people."

The jab came hours after Trump posted on Truth Social: "Very good news! I have just been informed that the eight women protestors who were going to be executed tonight in Iran will no longer be killed. Four will be released immediately, and four will be sentenced to one month in prison." the post said.

"I very much appreciate that Iran, and its leaders, respected my request, as President of the United States, and terminated the planned execution." he added.
Meanwhile, Iran's government flatly rejected Trump's version of events. Iran's Mizan News Agency, the official outlet of the Iranian judiciary, stated: "The claims that eight women are facing execution are false. Some of them have already been released, while others face charges that — if proven by the court — will result in prison sentences rather than death."
The Iran Embassy in South Africa, went further in a second post, writing: "Eight other Iranian girls are going to be executed in Iran tomorrow. Ask Trump to help. Thanks to ChatGPT."

The embassy's posts implied that the photos of the eight women Trump had shared on Truth Social were AI-generated, though this has not been independently verified.
The episode unfolded against the backdrop of ongoing US-Iran ceasefire negotiations. Trump had urged Iran the previous day to release the women, saying it "would be a great start to our negotiations."
The women were, reportedly, accused of throwing objects during a January protest against the regime and providing assistance to injured demonstrators.

The White House also stood by Trump's account. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said: "Only President Trump could save the lives of these eight beautiful Iranian women."
Who exactly is telling the truth remains disputed with no independent confirmation from the women themselves or international monitors on the ground.
