US President Donald Trump praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi while promising to build a stronger relationship with India.

"Our amazing relationship with India will be even stronger going forward. Prime Minister Modi and I are two people that get things done, something that cannot be said for most," US Embassy in India quoted Trump's statement.

The US President's statement comes amid the ongoing tensions in the Middle East after US-Israel attacked Iran, while Tehran responded with strikes and closure of the Hormuz Strait, leading to a serious global energy crisis.

On Tuesday, Trump called Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discussed the ongoing situation in the Middle East. Both leaders also discussed the Strait of Hormuz closure and efforts towards peace and stability.

"President Donald Trump just spoke with Prime Minister Modi. They discussed the ongoing situation in the Middle East, including the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open," said US Envoy Sergio Gor.

The Indian Prime Minister, in a post on X, said that he received a call from President Trump and they had a useful exchange of views on the ongoing conflict.

"Received a call from President Trump and had a useful exchange of views on the situation in West Asia. India supports de-escalation and restoration of peace at the earliest. Ensuring that the Strait of Hormuz remains open, secure and accessible is essential for the whole world. We agreed to stay in touch regarding efforts towards peace and stability," said PM Modi.

Trump dialed PM Modi in less than 24 hours after he announced a postponement of strikes on Iranian power plants for five days, earlier giving a 48-hour ultimatum to reopen Hormuz. He also claimed that the US and Iran held productive discussions regarding the tensions in the Middle East.

Speaking in the Lok Sabha on Monday, PM Modi said that attacks on commercial ships and disruptions in waterways such as the Strait of Hormuz are unacceptable, and India is making continuous efforts to ensure the safe movement of Indian ships in this situation.
