Commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) Sheikh Yousuf Afridi was shot dead by unknown gunmen in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, NDTV reported.
The attackers fired multiple rounds at Afridi, a close associate of the LeT commander Hafiz Saeed and left no chance for him to escape, initial reports suggested.
Afridi is primarily considered to be an essential link in the US-proscribed terror group's operations in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region, and investigators regard his death as a targeted assassination. The latest killing adds to the list of similar attacks on several terrorists in Pakistan recently, the report said.
An unidentified gunman attcaked a wanted terrorist and LeT founding member Amir Hamza last month in Pakistan's Lahore, outside a TV station. According to reports, Hamza, 67, survived the attack.
Prior to that, Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Maulana Masood Azhar's elder brother, Muhammad Tahir Anwar, died in Pakistan, under mysterious circumstances , reports said. He played a key role within Jaish-e-Mohammed and was actively involved in its operations.
